Enrollment & Registration

Information
We are a D51 public magnet K-5 school with a STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, & Math) curricular focus and a LEAD (Literacy, Empathy, Agency, & Dispositions) character-building focus.
Our student schedule is Monday - Thursday from 7:45 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Learners from all over the Grand Valley are chosen at random through a lottery system every year.
The 2026 Application process will begin December 1, 2025 and end on December 18, 2025. Parents/Guardians can pick up lottery registration materials between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. Monday through Thursday or 8:15 a.m. to 12:15 a.m. on Friday in the main office located at 2660 Unaweep Avenue.
Children with siblings at New Emerson will receive priority enrollment in New Emerson, and sibling registration occurs every November-December.
Applicants chosen in the random lottery drawing in January will be notified by letter. Please do not call. Letters will be sent regardless of your child's application status
Parents/Guardians of any child chosen to register must call the school by the fifth school day after the date on the letter to confirm your child will attend the school in 2026-27. The letter will also list a deadline in April for final registration for incoming Kindergarten students.
New Emerson also does a lottery drawing for transfer students in grades 1-5 at this time as well. While most students start New Emerson in Kindergarten, Parents/Guardians of students who will be in Grades 1-5 in 2026-27 can apply for any possible opening in those grade-level classrooms.
The waiting list does not roll over each year, so anyone who applied for the waitlist last year will need to apply again.
Thank you so much for your interest in attending New Emerson School!
