Learning That Inspires & Empowers

From the STEAM LEAD curriculum to Maker Space, Early Bird Reading, and real-world PBL, students experience authentic learning that sparks creativity and builds future-ready skills.

Our STEAM LEAD model blends rigorous academics with authentic, joyful learning experiences that prepare students for the future.

S – Science: Inquiry-based science instruction K–5; juried science fair for grades 3–5.

T – Technology: One of only two local schools with a certified Computer Science teacher; coding, robotics, digital citizenship, and “Kids Who Code.”

E – Engineering: “Libratorian” makerspace library; STEAM Stations in K–2 classrooms for structured creative play through the lens of engineering design.

A – Arts: Certified art (1 of only 3 in the valley) and music teachers; all students attend twice weekly and showcase learning through performances and exhibitions.

M – Math: Best practices, rigorous expectations, and cross-curricular connections.

L – Literacy: Literacy is our foundation. Early Bird Reading, writing celebrations, and literate identities are core to our mission.

E – Empathy: Daily culture of respect and compassion, with focused learning in December and May.

A – Agency: Portfolios, daily “Goal Time,” and ownership of learning.

D – Dispositions: Building the core dispositions and capacities needed to thrive in today’s world.

Problem-Based Learning (PBL) brings it all together—students tackle real-world challenges, collaborate on solutions, and present to experts.

LEAD Time starts every school day via Early Bird Reading, Morning Meeting, & Community Circles. This time is devoted to learning that supports: student belonging, executive functioning, growth mindset, persistence, and empathy.

Compass Crew (student leadership) strengthen community, character, and student voice.

At New Emerson, students don’t just learn for school—they learn for life.
